Distracted Driving Course (PED)2 hours

Who must take it

Drivers convicted of using a portable or hands-free electronic device while driving, including TLC and non-TLC vehicle drivers.

Deadline

Complete the two-hour course within 60 days of the hearing and provide proof of completion to the TLC.

TLC 24 Hours Course24 hours · 3 days

Course format

Complete 24 hours over three days: eight hours per day, plus breaks.

TLC License Renewal Course4 hours · No exam

Course format

The renewal course lasts four hours and does not require an exam.

Renewal steps

  • Complete the TLC license renewal application
  • Complete the renewal course
  • Complete the annual drug test
  • Complete the required defensive-driving course

Timing and frequency

Take the course within 90 days before your TLC license expires. The requirement returns every three years.

Why timing matters

Late completion may cause additional fees. Without the course, the TLC license cannot be renewed. Contact the academy if you need help with your renewal application.

TLC Wheelchair Accessible Course WAV3 hours

Course purpose

This required three-hour course prepares drivers to provide safe and respectful service to passengers who use wheelchairs.

What it includes

  • Hands-on wheelchair securement practice in an accessible vehicle

Completion requirement

Applicants must complete the entire course and every step of the hands-on passenger securement process, without exemptions.
